After a hard Winter, your snow blower could be looking at a tough summer as well.  Make sure you give it a little TLC and 'Summerize' your equipment before storing through the warmer days to come.  Don't wait until there are 12 inches of snow on the ground again before you give your snow blower the attention it needs.  Stepping through this quick checklist now will allow you to have your driveway and sidewalks cleared and be sitting inside sipping hot coffee in no time.

Tip #1 - Check your spark plugs.  Replace is necessary based on your manufacturer's recommendations.

Tip #2 - Check your tires.  Ensure that they are inflated to the proper pressure, and that they still have good tread.  Inspect for signs of cracking.    Inspect chains for signs of wear or damage.

Tip #3 - Change the engine oil.  Don't let your snow blower sit all summer with dirty oil.  The moisture and acids resulting from combustion can have harmful effects over time.

Tip #4 - Lube the drive and chassis.  Consult your manufacturer's documentation for recommendations.

Tip #5 - Inspect all belts, bolts, and moving parts.  Replace cracked belts and tighten is loose.  Always pay attention to safety.

Tip #6 - Siphon off remaining gasoline or run the tank dry.  Store without fuel for the Summer.

Tip #7 - Inspect for signs of rust.  Sand and repaint as necessary.

Tip #8 - Using a rag, wipe a thin coat of WD-40 over all areas of exposed metal.  This thin layer of oil will deter rust resulting from humidity over the summer.
